Content Policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026
opia is where you find events and share what happens at them. We want it to be an open place: say what you think, even when others disagree or find it uncomfortable.
We step in when content breaks the law or harms people. This policy explains where that line is, what happens when someone crosses it, and what you can do if you think we got it wrong. It applies to everything on opia: profiles, events, posts, comments, photos and videos.
1. How we moderate
Unpopular, provocative or offensive opinions are allowed. We don't remove something because we or others disagree with it, and we don't fact-check opinions.
Anything that's illegal in Switzerland, or in the EU country where it's seen, isn't allowed on opia.
Criticise ideas, beliefs, politics and events as sharply as you like. Threatening, harassing or degrading people is where it stops.
We choose the least severe measure that solves the problem and look at context: news, satire, art and counter-speech are not the same as what they're about.
16+You need to be at least 16 to use opia. We remove accounts of younger people.
2. What's not allowed
Each rule matches a reason you can choose when you report something in the app.
Illegal content
Anything that breaks Swiss law, or the law of the EU country where it's seen.
Not allowed
- Sexual content involving minors. Zero tolerance: we ban the account and report it to the police.
- Terrorist and violent extremist propaganda, or support for such groups
- Buying, selling or arranging drugs, weapons, counterfeits or stolen data
- Scams and fraud, such as fake tickets or fake giveaways
- Intimate images of someone shared without their consent

- Copyright or trademark infringement, e.g. someone else's photos or music used without permission
Allowed
- Talking about drugs, your own experiences and safer use, e.g. drug checking
- Promoting events with alcohol, as long as it isn't aimed at minors
- Reporting on crime, court cases and illegal activity

Not allowed
- Threatening to hurt or kill someone, or wishing it on them

Harassment and privacy
Not allowed
- Targeting someone with insults, humiliation or degrading content, especially repeatedly
- Getting others to pile on someone
- Unwanted sexual comments or advances
- Sharing someone's private information without consent: home address, phone number, ID documents, private messages
- Photos or videos of people in private situations shared without their consent
Allowed
- Criticising public figures, organisers, venues and events, even sharply
- Honest negative reviews of an event
- Satire and parody
- Addresses of public places such as venues and clubs
Hate
Attacks on people because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, disability, age or a serious illness.
Not allowed
- Slurs and degrading stereotypes aimed at people
- Dehumanising people, e.g. comparing them to animals, vermin or diseases
- Calling for people to be excluded, segregated or harmed for who they are
- Denying or trivialising genocide, such as the Holocaust
- Symbols of hate groups used to promote them
Allowed
- Debating religion, ideology, politics and society, including controversial positions

- Reporting on hate or speaking out against it
Nudity and sexual content
Not allowed
- Pornography and sexually explicit images or videos, including drawn or AI-generated ones

Allowed
- Non-sexual nudity in art, e.g. life drawing, exhibitions or performances

- Methods or instructions for hurting yourself
- Challenges and dares that put people in danger
Allowed
- Talking about your own experiences and recovery
- Asking for or offering support
- Awareness and prevention
Going through a hard time? You don't have to face it alone. In Switzerland, call 143 (Die Dargebotene Hand) or, if you're young, 147 (Pro Juventute) — anonymously and around the clock. If someone's life is in danger, call 112.
Spam and deception
Not allowed
- Posting the same thing over and over, or mass-posting links
- Bots, automated accounts and fake engagement such as bought likes or followers
- Fake events, or events with a misleading date, place, price or organiser
- Pretending to be another person, brand or organiser
- Opening new accounts to get around a suspension
- Links to phishing or malware
Allowed
- Promoting your own events, commercial ones included — that's what opia is for
- Sharing other people's events you think others will like
- Parody and fan accounts that clearly say so
3. What happens when a rule is broken
Every report is reviewed by a person, not by an automated system. Depending on how serious it is, we take one or more of these steps:
- RemoveThe post, comment or event disappears from opia, and we tell you which rule it broke.
- WarnWe send you a notification that something of yours broke this policy.
- SuspendThe account is closed and signed out on every device, and its content disappears from opia. We tell you why.
A first violation usually leads to removal and a warning. If it happens again, we suspend the account. We suspend straight away, without a warning, for:
- sexual content involving minors
- serious threats of violence and terrorist content
- scams and fraud
- selling drugs or weapons
- spam bots, fake accounts and getting around a suspension
- accounts of people under 16
Removals and suspensions can be undone: we hide content and accounts rather than erasing them, so we can restore them if an appeal succeeds.
When the law requires it, or when someone's life or safety is at risk, we pass information on to the authorities.
4. Reporting
- In the app, use Report on the content or profile concerned and choose the reason that fits best. If none fits exactly, add a short description.
- The person you report isn't told who reported them.
- No account, or reporting as an authority or rights holder? Write to hello@opia.app with the username and what the content is about.
5. Think we got it wrong?
- If we removed something of yours or suspended your account, you can appeal within six months: write to hello@opia.app with your username and what the decision was about.
- Someone looks at the case again and lets you know the outcome. If the decision was wrong, we restore your content or account.
- You can also ask us which rule a decision was based on.
- If you live in the EU, you can also turn to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under the Digital Services Act, or go to court.
6. Changes
We update this policy when opia or the law changes; the date at the top shows the current version. Questions: hello@opia.app
